The photo above shows Mayor Lubov of Gorniky Village, John and Andrew
Today started early and has ended later than I expected. I had a number of good visits and meetings that were aimed at strengthening our efforts in this area. One of the meetings was with a Regional Deputy who is interested in shipping an entire container of hospital beds into this region. There are over 16 different medical institutions that need beds for patients.
One of the visits that I enjoyed greatly was with mayor Lubov in Gorniky Village. This is the village that has donated the plot of land to the Lord’s Church. Lubov is delightful bubbly personality and her name fits her well (Lubov is “love”). We took several boxes and bags of garden seeds that have been shipped and presented them to Lubov asking her to be sure that the large families and the needy in the village received them. She was speechless at the gift saying over and over how much that meant to the citizens as they would have food for the winter. We sat in her office and looked at the seeds and talked about which we loved most and how it was best cooked. Of course she has never seen or heard “okra.” So we described when to pick it and how to prepare it.
Following our discussion on the seeds Lubov took us to the newly built Kindergarten building. It will be officially dedicated 04 June and she asked me to be present but I told her I would be unable to attend. The new building is very well constructed. As we walked through the building we came upon two wall murals. One had three children reading a Bible under a tree with an angel watching over them. The second had children coming to Jesus to be blessed. Lubov said, “You know that a child must begin early to learn of the Bible and Jesus.” Now this is in a public school! How impressive!
Upon returning I quickly changed to “official meeting” garb and rushed off to meet the Deputy in the local White House. The meeting went well and very cordial. We need to look at other items that are available to be included in the container and send the list back to him.
Following that it was time to rush back, change into comfortable jeans and assemble with the congregation for mid-week Bible study. We had 30 present tonight. There are still some who are not feeling strong enough to be out (brother Yaroslav) and some of the children remain sick. The class went well and it was a joy to be together. The sad part was realizing this would be the last time I would be with the brethren until I return in the autumn.
In the morning I leave for the airport at 5:45 and fly to Kyiv. Then I wait all day until the night train leaves for Kramatorsk. I should arrive in the early morning and begin looking at distribution of two containers we have shipped there. I’ll worship with the brethren on Sunday before getting on a bus for a 5+ hour bus ride to Zaporozhye. I’ll stay some days there then on to Odessa and after three days then I return to Kyiv…
Continue praying for our efforts during this trip.
