Daily Update – 3/4/22

Group of students from UAB Medical School that helped prepare 6 pallets of medical supplies

A group that was enlisted by Ukrainians attending the UAB medical School in Tuscaloosa, as well as others from neighboring States (see photo and featured photo). This shows those of the group left at the end, but there were about 12 others who came and went throughout the day. In total, they packaged 6 pallets of medical supplies to be ready to fly!

OUR UPDATE FOR TODAY

We continue lining our ducks in a row! I’m currently in Columbia, TN where a number of congregations are working together in a massive bucket collection. We have brethren from KY, MO, and TN who are collecting for the shipment going out of the Columbia, TN location. Graymere and South Gate are being joined by a number of smaller congregations. It is wonderful to see brethren pull together in such a historic action! THANK YOU!

THANK YOU also for the donations that continue to come. We are using 100% of donations for the relief efforts.

On Thursday we had an amazing group working at the Montgomery, AL warehouse. Gif had 20 from various locations connected to Ukraine working. This was a critical event because they were pulling urgently requested medical supplies that will be airlifted into Ukraine.

We continue to receive media coverage highlighting the impact that the Churches of Christ are making on this crisis. We continue having television interviews. Here is a link to the Columbia, TN newspaper:

A MEDICAL PHYSICIAN & TWO NURSES

Charita received a request for medical attention in the refugee camps. Then Dr. Joe Howton MD contacted Charita asking how he could help. Here is Charita’s reply:

Good morning Dr. Joe Howton MD, Let me say thank you again and again for what you are doing. I have spoken to Maria and they got your information so you will be met and taken care of. Tanya Dr. Howton is asking what kind of instruments he needs to take with him and what medication is needed.  This is not something I can advise him on, you are on the ground there and have a better idea how your medical services at the refugee camps are set up.  Please reply to a good doctor.

Dr. Howton, I did get in touch with the Ukrainian Embassy in Gdansk, they are looking for medical support and will be able to answer all med personnel that wish to assist. Please email them at the addresses I gave you.”

SHIPPING IS DEVELOPING MORE & MORE

We continue to get updates on how we can ship our collected humanitarian aid and medical supplies. Charita has been working hard to help us make these arrangements. News from today about possible dates:

By the grace of God, I got a booking for the first food container in Ohio, just need confirmation from a trucking company before I give you a date.  Once I have set a scheduled date for loading I will forward you all the information. So, we are ready for one container. Just heard that we are set for loading Tuesday, this cargo is going through Canada and I will need to provide them with a non-commercial invoice by tomorrow for declaration and permission to get on rails. Need a preloading inventory for one container, approximate weight and estimated value of goods. One more container is booked for the week after.

Best Regards

Charita

Communication from Ukraine

From Ivano-Frankivsk:

Greetings, brother! Yes, Zelena is doing fine. We stay in touch with all church members. I will go there after worship on Sunday. I’m in touch with Bogdan and Galyna all the time. There are a lot of refugees from Odesa in the mountains there. So far they have enough food and other things. But their supplies will last no more than 1 week. It is more and more challenging to buy gasoline. But we have secured 250 liters for the gasoline generator and cars. Besides we have stored some food. Food stores and pharmacies have a limited assortment of things. Everything is working to supply the army. Please, continue asking the Lord to stop the war. Putin wants to drop a nuclear bomb. He has completely lost his mind.

Big thanks to you, brethren, for prayers and support.

From Odesa:

Dear John! Since 2016, I have joined the humanitarian movement to help the people of Ukraine!  But today is a terrible time. It is WAR! It erases cities and villages, kills and cripples the fate of people! I have not met people who loved Ukrainians more than you! May God bless you and your family!

But John, today Ukrainians need help once again like never before! And hope you will be able to help us with everything possible from your side. For that reason, I am kindly asking you to write a letter of recommendation on your own behalf that will add weight to our efforts!

Hope to see you again soon.

Your friend,
Igor Nevolin

Please keep Ukraine in your prayers!
