Gif’s sermon this Sunday morning was on our commitment to God. What is our focus? Why are we involved in the Church?
The purpose of our efforts is simple, “Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). The word translated “glorify” refers to actions that cause one to be honored or esteemed. It communicates that this is a governing factor that is absent of any personal aspirations—it is a total focus on another and not upon self. The Christian’s motivation in life is not to bring a focus on self but to highlight the Truths about God. Paul summarizes this in simple terms, “I have been crucified” (Galatians 2:20). Life is no longer about satisfying “ME” but about serving so God is glorified. Any “boasting” should focus upon the cross and not upon personalities (Galatians 6:14).
Our mission objective (whether far or near) is to work so that everything we do draws attention to God and not ourselves. This was the concern of Paul as he wrote to the Corinthians who were eager to bolster personalities instead of the Lord God Almighty (1 Corinthians 1:14-16).
Paul’s mission focus was realized when he wrote back to the Corinthians saying, “For the ministry of this service is…overflowing through many thanksgivings to God…they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all.”
Recently I met with a commander in the military who was sent to meet me on behalf of others. He wanted to convey the gratitude that is felt toward the Churches of Christ in sending the hundreds of relief shipments all over the nation. He said that it was only one medal and he knows there are many involved and he wished he could give each a medal, but it is not possible. This presentation expresses sincere gratitude to all involved. Be assured that thanksgiving to God is oft expressed because of the compassion that is so clearly demonstrated by these shipments.
Thanks to the supporters of UKRAINE MISSIONS for the funding that makes such actions possible. Through your giving the Lord and His Church
are magnified!
